Reader. Writer. Editor.

My name is Evan and I am currently a student at the University of Cincinnati. I am working towards a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a focus in Creative Writing, as well as certificates in Copyediting & Publishing and Professional Writing. I also served as a nonfiction editor for UC’s undergraduate literary journal, Short Vine. Check it out here!

Often, people ask me why I major in English. After getting out of the Army, I returned to school without any idea of what to study. Many subjects interested me, such as Environmental Science, History, and Philosophy, but I didn’t feel a strong connection to these. I had to ask myself, “What do I want to do?” My answer: read. So I became an English major, and haven’t regretted it for a moment since.

Through my studies and past work, I have become highly proficient with Microsoft Office (my Excel spreadsheets are second to none). I also have intermediate experience with Submittable and Adobe Creative Cloud. You are seeing my most recent skill: WordPress; I am excited to hone it.

When not happily occupied with school, you can find me working at my local distillery (ask me about whiskey!), catching up on my personal reading, or going for a long hike.
