Review of Gretel and the Great War, by Adam Ehrlich Sachs

I wrote this review for ENGL 3096: Creative Writing and Literary Publishing. The purpose of this assignment was to demonstrate how to write a review that one might find in a literary journal. Through this review, you can see how I read novels, and what aspects catch my attention.

Reflection: I found this assignment incredibly helpful with understanding book reviews within the literary world. Leading up to this assignment, I read a hefty amount of reviews in various journals. Before this, I understood reviews to be something on the inside of a dustcover or listed on Goodreads. Learning of the various styles and lengths of book reviews was eye opening, and getting the chance to write a proper review of my own allowed me to further my close reading skills. This assignment showed me a new side of being a literary citizen. Also, it let me read one of the most humorous books Iโ€™ve seen in a while!
